Associate Equine Veterinarian - Scone

Position

Scone Equine Group is seeking suitable applicants for associate equine veterinarian positions at least 2 years graduated for either a seasonal locum or an 18 month mixed position in Scone.

During the breeding season the successful applicant(s) will have responsibility for independent veterinary care on client properties as well as supporting senior veterinarians in providing a high level of service on their client Thoroughbred farms as well as other client properties. The afterhours roster is expected to be 1 in 3 with adequate back up and second opinion at all times.

Applicants should have experience in equine veterinary practice and be knowledgeable of routine stud medicine and reproduction veterinary work. It would be an advantage to have previously worked in thoroughbred stud practice or an equine internship. It is encouraged to consider the role to include at least 2 successive breeding seasons. A mixed 18 month position involving flexible arrangements with the potential of small animal veterinary work in the period between February and August is encouraged.

Location

The area of Scone, Denman and Murrurundi is the heart of the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia with the second largest population of breeding horses in the world. It is also home to a large performance horse population. The Upper Hunter area encompassing Denman, Scone and Murrurundi is in close proximity to larger regional towns, Tamworth and Newcastle. The area is close to the vineyard region of Pokolbin and the Newcastle beaches are one and a half hours away, or you could be in Sydney with three and a half hours' drive. Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in the southern hemisphere, employing approximately 30 equine veterinarians in the peak breeding season time of year.

Selection Criteria

Scone Equine Hospital will assist the successful applicant with the VISA requirements for working in Australia if necessary. Applicants who are only eligible for limited registration will not be considered for the position.

Remuneration Package

Senior Associate Ambulatory Equine Veterinarian

POSITION:

Scone Equine Group is seeking a suitable applicant for a Senior Associate Equine Veterinarian position. It is expected to have at least 4 years’ experience since graduation.It is anticipated the successful applicant will be in our team before the 2021 breeding season.

The successful applicant will have responsibility for independent veterinary care on client properties with thoroughbred broodmare groups as well as responsibility for our Scone Artificial Reproduction services in Scone. The artificial reproductive services currently offered from our Scone location include fresh, chilled and frozen semen insemination caseload, stallion training and semen collection on jump mare or dummy, chilled semen shipping, fertility investigations, an embryo transfer program and semen analysis with all the toys including casa. The role involves working within a team of ambulatory vets able and keen to assist. We aim to have the afterhours roster as 1 in 4 at worst during the season as well as in the remainder of the year with adequate back up and second opinion from experienced and specialist veterinarians at all times. Discussions around flexible arrangements in the ‘sales season’ are encouraged.

Applicants should have wide experience in equine veterinary practice, routine stud medicine and reproductive management of the stallion and mare. Thoroughbred stud work experience is a bonus and applicants with specialist qualifications would be at an advantage but not a requirement to apply. There are opportunities for an ongoing position with increased responsibilities over time.

Clovelly ICU

The Intensive Care Unit at Clovelly Stables has a large team of specialist veterinarians, interns, nurses, and barn crew working together to provide 24-hour care for critically ill neonates, adults, and post-operative patients. Approximately 1000 patients are seen annually, including a high caseload of neonatal and adult medicine and post-surgical cases.

There are a variety of nursing roles that are stimulating and fast paced but well supported by an experienced team of specialists, interns, nurses and a hospital coordinator. Equine Surgery Nurse

Surgery

Our equine surgical unit is led by registered specialists and highly experienced equine surgeons trained to world-best standards. Veterinary anaesthetists, qualified nursing staff and veterinary interns support the surgeons as part of a coordinated team. Our 24 hour surgical service for SEH and referral clients is an essential component of the care we provide for critical cases such as those requiring colic surgery or caesarean section. There are approximately 1000 procedures undertaken annually, making this one of the busiest equine surgical facilities in Australia.

The Role

Scone Equine Hospital is seeking a Surgery Nurse for their busy surgical facility. This role is stimulating and fast paced but well supported by an experienced team of specialists, interns, nurses and a hospital coordinator. The successful applicant will be part of a strong team and will have a passion for providing high quality patient care, customer service and will demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation and excellent communication skills. This position will also include a component of flexi-nursing roles within the practice. This would suit both early-in-career nurses and experienced nurses looking to take the next step in their equine nursing careers by gaining experience in a high case load hospital. There is also an on-call component to this role.
