Troy graduated from Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan in 1997.
Following a surgical internship in Alberta, he returned to Western and completed a 3 year Large Animal Surgical Residency with a concurrent Masters of Veterinary Science degree. He then continued as a Clinical Associate in Large Animal Surgery.
Following certification in 2002 by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Troy accepted a position at Iowa State University as an Assistant Professor of Equine Surgery. Troy then worked as a locum surgeon in private and academic institutions in Australia and Canada including Scone Equine Hospital in 2005. He joined Scone Equine Hospital full time in 2008, where he has continued to be a very valuable member of the Surgery team. In 2022, Troy became Head of the Surgery department.
