Jane Axon Scholarship: Scone Equine Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit

The Jane Axon Scholarship, sponsored by Scone Equine Hospital, was established in 2015 and provides equine medicine residents in a residency programme (ECEIM / ACVIM / Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists) with an opportunity to gain equine emergency and critical care experience by participating in a 4 week externship at Scone Equine Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit from late August to the end of October each year. This period coincides with our highest neonatal caseload giving the successful applicant the chance to develop and expand their clinical and diagnostic skills in equine neonatology.  The veterinarian will be involved in case admissions and management under the direction of our four equine medicine specialists. The scholarship is to the value of AUD $5,000 and can be used to cover the cost of accommodation, car hire and transport to Scone on production of valid receipts.

The scholarship aims to recognise Jane Axon’s considerable contribution to the education and training of veterinary students, visiting residents and veterinarians during her position as director of the Scone Equine Hospital’s ICU. Jane was a specialist in equine medicine and a recognised expert in equine neonatology. Her dedication and patience shaped the careers of many equine veterinarians. She played a major role in the development and expansion of the Scone Equine Hospital’s ICU.

Only one scholarship is available each year. Applications should include a curriculum vitae and letter of application. Applications for the 2025 Scholarship are now closed.

Please note: Only applications from current equine medicine residents will be considered for the scholarship.
