Equine Hospital Coordinator

Clovelly ICU

The Intensive Care Unit at Clovelly Stables has a large team of specialist veterinarians, interns, nurses, and barn crew working together to provide 24-hour care for critically ill neonates, adults, and post-operative patients. Approximately 1000 patients are seen annually, including a high caseload of neonatal and adult medicine and post-surgical cases.

The Role

This role coordinates, supports, engages, and leads the team of veterinary nurses at Clovelly ICU. This role is critical to ensure the smooth running of the hospital while providing the best in patient care. You would also be part of the management team who implement strategies and change.

Skills and experience

  • Certificate 4 or Diploma in Veterinary Nursing

Equine Surgeon

Scone Equine Group (SEG) is seeking a full time equine surgeon, to be based at the Scone Equine Hospital, NSW or Avenel Equine Hospital, Victoria. Applicants must have, or be eligible to sit, appropriate qualifications to allow registration as an Australian specialist in equine surgery. These include FANZCVS, Dipl ACVS or Dipl ECVS.

SEG includes Scone Equine Hospital, Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, Avenel Equine Hospital and Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre. We are the largest equine practice in the southern hemisphere, employing approximately 50 equine veterinarians during the breeding season. The group boasts an internationally recognised team of veterinarians, including 4 specialists in equine surgery, 5 specialists in equine medicine, 1 anaesthesiologist and 1 theriogenologist.

Scone Equine Hospital performs approximately 2000 major surgical procedures and Avenel 400 annually. The surgical load is biased towards thoroughbreds, although we have a significant number of non-racing performance clients. The Scone Equine Hospital is well equipped to perform all recognised procedures. Surgeries at Avenel (Victoria) and Tamworth (NSW) are well equipped to perform routine elective and some emergency procedures.

Scone is located in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding and western performance industries and is a beautiful part of rural Australia located close to major regional centres and cities on the east coast of Australia.

Avenel Equine Hospital is located in the heart of Victoria's thoroughbred breeding region. The practice offers a comprehensive ambulatory service to equine clients in the local area as well as an elective surgical service and intensive care at the hospital. We currently employ 9 equine veterinarians including one experienced surgeon and one medicine specialist in our team.

The successful applicant will be one of five equine surgeons, based at our Scone surgical facility, or one of two based in our Avenel surgical facility. Our surgeons have a wealth of experience and are willing to provide help, support and training.

The position is permanent full time with the hope that the applicant will stay long-term and acquire ownership. An attractive salary package is offered with the commencement date to be determined. Applications close 31 March, 2021.

Associate Equine Veterinarian - Scone

Located in the heart of Australia's thoroughbred breeding country and across four key horse regions in NSW and Victoria, SEG delivers excellence in equine veterinary health through Scone Equine Hospital, Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre, Avenel Equine Hospital and the Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, Muswellbrook. SEG equine veterinarians are recognised around the world for their knowledge and specialists with skills across the full spectrum of the equine practice.

POSITION:

Scone Equine Group is seeking suitable applicants for Junior Associate Equine Veterinarian positions.

The successful applicant(s) will have responsibility for independent veterinary care on client properties as well as supporting senior veterinarians in providing a high level of service on their client thoroughbred farms as well as other client properties. The afterhours roster will be 1 in 3 with adequate back up and second opinion at all times.

Applicants should ideally have experience in equine veterinary practice and be knowledgeable of routine stud medicine and reproduction veterinary work. It would be considered an advantage to have worked in a similar role elsewhere in thoroughbred stud practice. It is encouraged to consider the role to include at least 2 successive breeding seasons. The opportunity for an ongoing position is an option and can be discussed during the initial period of employment.

LOCATION:

The area of Scone, Denman and Murrurundi is in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia with the second largest population of breeding horses in the world. It is also home to a large performance horse population. The Upper Hunter area is also in close proximity to larger regional towns - Tamworth and Newcastle. The area is close to the vineyard region of Pokolbin and the Newcastle beaches are one and a half hours away, or you could be in Sydney with three and a half hours' drive. Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in the southern hemisphere, employing approximately 30 equine veterinarians in the peak breeding season time of year.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Scone Equine Hospital will assist the successful applicant with the VISA requirements for working in Australia if necessary. Applicants who are only eligible for limited registration will not be considered for the position.

REMUNERATION:

- Base Salary range $1500-$1750 per week (AUD) with conditions outlined within a contract of employment

- A car equipped for on farm ambulatory work will be provided and is available for work and private use

- Fully furnished accommodation assistance provided

- Phone allowance $50 per month
