Niamh graduated from the University College, Dublin in 2001. She completed an Equine Surgery internship at University College, Dublin followed by a year in Equine practice. She then embarked on a three-year residency in Equine Internal Medicine at the Univrsity of Edinburgh. In 2006, she passed the Royal College of Veterinary Science Certificate in Equine Internal Medicine. Niamh completed a Masters of Science degree with distinction in 2007,  then worked in the Equine Medicine service at Rossdales Equine Hospital Newmarket.  She joined the team at Scone Equine Hospital's Intensive Care Unit in July 2008.

Niamh is a diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine.
